Coolant Leak
« on: 05 August 2016, 08:45 »
Hi,

I've just aquired a 2002 Golf GTI 1.8 from my brother.

The warning Check Coolant is being displayed, by STOP.

I've had the car stationary, added water into the system and managed to locate the leak (I believe), though I'm not quite sure what I'm looking at.

I've made a video, if anyone could point me in the right direction before I take it to the garage I would be most grateful.

Cheers Dalo,

I've been investigating further and this is presenting itself as a likely cause. I appreciate your time to give me further insight, at least now I have a general idea prior to taking it to a garage. I'll check the info out and see how I get on at the garage. Hopefully nothing too expensive!

You can do it yourself takes 2 seconds car spares sell the set u need a new rubber and clip £6 it cost done mine last week.. While engine is cold unplug sensor at the top take out the u clip take out old rubber insert rubber insert new sensor push it down why you put the u clip back in start engine while water bottle cap is off leave car to run for 30 mins with heaters on and on hot just so any air locks job done..  Oh and make sure I get a 4 pin as the 2 pin goes on the pipe that comes out the water bottle

Brilliant, I have a good friend who's restoring a Renault GT and had recently offered to free up some time and utilise his tools if a job could be done. From what yourself and Dalo have suggested, and my mates offer. I think this is the perfect opportunity to get my hands dirty and learn maintenance.

I'm really impressed with the assistance provided in this forum, thanks =)
