Help! DSG goes missing while driving
« on: 04 August 2016, 09:20 »
hi all.

twice in the past 3 months the DSG goes missing while driving.  Yesterday I was stuck in 3rd gear at about 3000 rpm and the gear sign disappeared completely from the MFD for about a mile (windy downhill mountain road so i couldn't really stop anywhere - i stopped after a mile or so).  I had to stop, switch off and switch on again so that things got back to normal.  Same thing happened a few months back - i was stuck in 2nd and the gear number disappeared while trying to park in my driveway.  Problem went away after switching off and on.

A bit of history: the DSG mechatronic was changed under warranty when the car had 40K miles on (the difference then was that the car kicked me out of any gear, the check engine also popped up and the DSG remained totally unresponsive even after switching off and on).  Now the car has 110K miles on and there were no problems since the mechatronic unit was changed, about 4 years ago not until now.  Don't know if the two (past and present) relate.

Any help welcome.

I think the first step in DSG probs is to try a DSG reset and see if the fault goes away. I believe it can be done with VCDS if you have it or there's someone local to you who's handy with it. Failing that a dealer/specialist will be able to do it. I think the car has to be driven to an 'adaptation drive' afterwards.

Has your DSG been serviced on time? Should have had gearbox oil and filter changes every 40K miles, so yours should have had these done at 40K and 80K.

Edit:
There's a link to the DSG reset procedure in this very informative DSG info thread, may help you out:

Yes it's been serviced on time. Thing is, it's not a constant problem but something that like I said occurred twice in the last few months. So even if I use vcds to 'reset' the dsg, how can I be certain that the issue is gone?

DSG gives me a hard time
hi all,

the DSG (currently at 110k miles), has been giving me a torrid time lately.

1. while driving, the gear display on the MFD disappears, I cannot shift any gears, and the car keeps the current gear  - it happened 3 times in the last 10 days, so I had to completely stop, switch off the engine and then again on so that the DSG worked properly again.

2. the reverse sometimes does not engage on the first attempt (i can hear it clicking from underneath the car a couple of times as if trying to engage, before actually doing so).

The DSG has been serviced at 40 and 80k miles as it should have - it's got another service/oil change coming up at 120k miles.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I feel like I read a similar post a few days back and I think someone mentioned doing a DSG reset?

And perhaps do the DSG oil change now too?

Hope you get it sorted!

That was my post too. I don't want to mess with the service schedule add I've been punctual to the last mile until now. You think resetting it will work?
