Tuning box, anyone have experience with one?
« on: 01 August 2016, 16:33 »
Looking in to the future when my GTi PP arrives date TBC, was keen to extract a bit more power from the old girl.

Anyone had any dealings with a tuning box?

Reading on their site & as they are local they offer try before you buy option

Go for it, with the try before you buy option. I'm looking at one of these for a Volvo V40.
Audi S1 gone, awaiting 1.5tsi r-line, pan roof, led lights front and rear, active dash, 18" jurva alloys and a dealer fitted Oettinger roof spoiler in tornado red.

I'd give TDI-tuning a wide berth. My first foray into tuning boxes was with my MK7 GTD. One of the first companies out there with one for the GTD was TDI-tuning, so I got one.

The car ran like a bag of hammers, the frequency of my DPF regens more than doubled, my mpg dropped right off and the power delivery was brutal and crude.

I sent it back with my misgivings and they "tweaked" it. In effect they cut the power right back, making it pretty pointless.

I gave up on tuning boxes for a while until DTUK brought one out. They were local, so I paid them a visit and tried before paying - the difference was like night and day - lots more power, delivered smoothly and no negative impact on mpg - the frequency of my DPF regens halved vs stock.

Andrew at DTUK gave me the opportunity to get involved with the develooment of settings for his new "Trevor" box, and I saw just how much development goes into his products.

I know your car is a petrol, so some of the considerations won"t apply, but i'd put more stock in DTUK than TDI-tuning for the reasons above.

If you look at the TDI section around Jan 2014 you'll see my comments on the tuning box saga.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

I'd buy the DTUK one, with the Volvo i'm scrambling about trying to get the cheapest option(which aint the best) to try and give the car(it aint mine) a kick up the ass.

I would only consider a custom rolling road remap from somewhere with a good reputation. Personally.
Suffering from a severe and unforgiving case of GTItis

Yes, the FSR+

Never had it on a dyno myself but it's a hell of a lot faster with the box - fast enough for me to happily believe the figures I've heard. Might be worth pinging an email to them as they will give you an honest reply.

Just did a quick selection on their website to get to this page...

They quote 316PS (311.6 BHP) on their website for the PP car.

Thanks Gnasher.

I have also been speaking to Superchips to as the bluefin looks like nice sensible gains to with a nice power graph to prove...
