Autowatch Ghost
« on: 16 July 2016, 00:12 »
With current car theft trends targeting OBD ports and key theft from homes, I've been thinking about additional security for when the new GTI arrives shortly. I could splash out on an additional alarm with proximity sensors, but if your keys are stolen it seemed pointless.

After much searching, I came across the Autowatch Ghost immobiliser which links to the cars CANbus and requires a series of button presses on either the multifunction steering wheel or dashboard before the car will start. It's looks like a neat system, quite stealthy and I wondered if any of you had any experience of it?

On the second page on their site it says this has been discontinued with immediate effect - obviously they have problems possibly screwing up the Canbus.

That's an older product called "Key Guard".

Amazon sell OBD locks - they may be helpful.
The OBD new key scam appears to hit Range Rover, Ford and BMW mostly.

Lob a Crooklock or similar on the steering wheel. That is the best visual deterrent you can have as it is too late when they have smashed the glass to get inside the car to find they can't get anywhere.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Not sure what to do yet, maybe a mix of immobiliser and disklock.

Why bother with anything. If scum bags want your car they'll have your car and if that means breaking into your house to get keys for a steering wheel lock then that's what they'll do. Sounds harsh but unfortunately it's reality these days.
