broken clocks, sort of

can anyone help me, ive got a mk2 golf gti 8v on a j reg, and the temp guage,fuel guage and all the MFA display just reading -:--
they were all  working tonight untill  i hit a pot hole. the speedo and rev counter still runnin fine tho whereas the rest all dead.

anyone else encountered this?

pull the fuse out for the clocks or just disconnect the battery for a few seconds. should reset the clocks :smiley:

ah, could they have just tripped out? tried all the terminals on the back and the seemed fine :undecided:

Check the earth straps as well - there are three of them. My clocks went loopy the other week, so had a similar problem. The three straps are as follows:

1. Main strap - Battery to body to gearbox
2. Rocker cover to coil bracket
3. Body to bonnet (passenger side)

If they are split/generally knackered replace them, the main strap might just need a good clean up. The eyelet connectors easily clean up with a wire brush/fine sandpaper.

Can't say that it will definitely help, but worth checking.............. :grin: :grin:
