Take a break warning

Hi All. Here's one for you all.

I've had my car 11 months now and this weekend I visited the RIAT at RAF Fairford. A 400 mile round trip via the M6 and M5.

Twice on the way down (at 6 in the morning), I had the 'take a break warning' symbol appear. My question is - how is this triggered? The first time it appeared I'd been driving for 57 minutes. Open road and varying speed (ave speed cameras, roadworks, heavy rain etc.) Been awake for ~ 1 hour after a good night rest. Physically fit and healthy and tea total. 100% sure my driving was fine.

On the return, it went again at 47 miles from departure.

Having spent the last 11 months driving and never having had the symbol appear I was wondering does using ACC/navigation affect it? Does spending time in stop/start or stationary traffic affect it? Does having merged lanes/lane marker contribute?  Basically why has this never occurred before and why now?

I drove nonstop to Bangor last week (over 2 hrs) and it didn't appear nor did it appear on a long stint to Fort William this Easter.

The manual didn't shed light.

Any suggestions appreciated (- and no I didn't fall asleep!)

Apparently it monitors movement of the steering wheel and other driver inputs and it's based upon that. It also looks at speed etc.

I can't be turned off to my knowledge.   

Perhaps your driving wasn't quite as smooth and consistent as you thought.

That should be a speccable option - Kitkat dispenser in the centre console for those 'take a break' moments.

Only time it's come on for me was after driving for about 5 hours (2 hours, then a 1 hour break, then 3 hours). I hadn't slept well and I was feeling tired so it was probably right to come on - though it was also only 10 miles before getting to Tebay services where I was going to stop anyway.

I hadn't realised it can detect signs of tiredness, I just assumed it was a timed/mileage thing. I suppose at least in my car it seems to work.

I also wonder how this works.  In the two? times it has came on so far I have been pretty tired. But not to the extent of meandering on the road or anything.

I've had it come on a few times, during trips when I was negotiating the M1. Found it annoying and have meant to try turning it off, but, reading that it is not just a timed nanny, I guess it is one of those things that could, possibly, save your life. Still annoying, though, but I guess that's intentional.

I've had it ping up a few times. Always I was actually tired and it was only telling me something i knew already

Late night, heading home, motorway all the way but only a couple of hours.

I have this alert coming up quite regularly.  Should I be concerned? The ping noise always wakes me up!

If you are serious, I think you should be concerned. If you are joking, I still think you should be concerned!
