Puncture
« on: 02 July 2016, 20:58 »
Hi all,

It's been a while since I posted, but I am away this weekend and got a puncture towards the edge of my factory fit bridgestones on the rear passenger side. I don't know if it can be repaired, if the tyre needs replacing and I can't get another potenza, should I replace both tears or is it alright to get one done. The car is a pp gti wit about 5500miles so there is quite a bit of life left in them...

Cheers,
Phil

Why not use the foam for a couple of days so you can find the right tyre....good luck

At the moment it doesn't seem to have dropped pressure and it didn't bubble up when I put some liquid on it. I only noticed the head of the screw in the sunshine. Have got a 100mile drive home tomorrow and can't really do that on the space saver :-( what a pain!

How close to the sidewall is the puncture?   Replacing just the one tyre will be fine.

I would take the chance and try getting home before getting the tyre looked at, just reduce your speed a little.

It's just in the edge of the outer most groove, hopefully can be repaired. If I can't get a Bridgestone will it be ok to have a different tyre, I don't really want to skimp on cost, but it would be waste to replace both.

It's not ideal to have a newer tire on one corner but it's not the end of the world.

The car will be making corners all the time as that non-Bridgestone replacement will undoubtedly have far more grip than the other 3 tyres.

If it is that close to the edge then it should not be repaired. I would always fit tyres in pairs, there could be a significant difference in grip across the axle even with a new and part worn tyre of the same compound.

I'm probably being a bit dense here but you say it's a puncture but it's not losing air nor bubbling when covered in liquid. So how is it a puncture? Just take it to a reliable garage for an assessment.
