Just ordered, I will post my thoughts when it is fitted.

Nice one!  Let us know what you think of it once it's on.

Hi Booth and any other interested owners.

I put the pedal box on this morning and it went in really easy, I then took the car around the block for a quick spin and got the ...oh my god moment, it feels blistering ..very very quick and its been said but again it feels connected like an extension of my leg.

The box feels like it is anticipating your every move and then reacting instantly to your input, I remember a sprinter once saying he went on the B of the bang as opposed to reacting to the g..well this is certainly reacting to the B now, but I am not even sure it ever went on the G really it was delayed a little longer in my mind.
I cant wait to finish work and jump in again, my first thoughts are this has got to be the best £150 you could spend on a mk7 gti/gtd/R…I will leave it at that for now…ps the insurance did not charge any extra for this to be added.
Good to see you're appreciating the GTI finally feeling like a GTI should!

So this thing effectively cranks the pedal down without you having to do it yourself? It's not increasing the power of the motor so it's turning the accelerator into a button? Wearing lead boots would probably have the same effect.

Well it could be like that if you turned it to its max setting but you'd be better off saving yourself £150 and buying a 50p brick from B&Q and zip-tying that to the throttle pedal so it becomes an on-off switch.
Ideal for Santa Pod or hire cars.

Real world driving is nothing like that.

The pedal box is an adjustable amplifier that adds a far more tactile feel to the accelerator pedal and brings the engine to life when far less than 100% throttle opening is called for.
The factory throttle pedal setting is like trying to do ballet dancing in work boots.
It's all about delicacy and response at low to medium acceleration.
If you're a lead foot then the pedal box isn't for you.

A bit like a tuning box or remap, it's not just about the headline flat out performance, you can buy cars better than a tuned GTI/R for that sort of thing. The real benefits are the better response and flexibility.

Thanks for this nice explanation.  I'm actually the opposite of lead footed and quite like the ECO mode because it gives a greater degree of control for normal day to day driving conditions yet the full performance is there if needed, and it kills the soundaktor so I can hear the engine as it should sound, which I prefer.  I guess the pedal box responds to the rate of pedal movement as well as position which would give a more dynamic feel and would explain some of the comments.  I might try it sometime as long as I don't have to listen to the soundaktor.

I've disconnected the soundator completely, I really see no need for it.

Now I have been able to drive our car a bit more I can now relate to the 'dead' pedal feel and looking towards a pedal box.

Don't hesitate!

I really think I should be on a commission for these things!!
Andrew, if you're reading this - I'm expecting a free box for my next car!!

As for the soundaktor and Eco mode - If you're driving a very recent car then I think you can turn the soundaktor down via the menus(?) but on the earlier models it's an easy VCDS tweak to crank it down to about 30 or 40% which is a level where it does actually blend in with the engine and exhaust note and sounds ok.
I really don't like the engine in Eco even with the pedal box fitted, it just feels too lethargic and affects the cornering lights and air-con too.
With the pedal box I find the car best left in Normal mode as the box itself makes the torque much more readily accessible without making any effort with the throttle pedal meaning you're up through the gears quickly keeping the revs low, and thus improving the fuel consumption if you're after a quiet and frugal journey.
If you want to go balls out then the pedal box will make even a GTD feel like a sports car in its responses.
They're not for everyone I guess but they really suit my driving style.

As Mr Ex says, don't delay.  The dead pedal feel never gets any better and in fact as the time goes by you become increasingly frustrated with it to the point it starts to detract from an otherwise excellent car.  Sooner rather than later is my advice.

Yes, on later cars from late May 2015 onwards the Soundaktor can be turned down via the driver modes. .  You do this in Individual mode.  It's called Interior Engine Sound - set it to Eco and it's at its lowest, and is not in the slightest intrusive at all.  Before I got my car I expected to have to disconnect it but this ability to control it in Individual negated that need.
