Thanks Bec. Yeah I tried the same and it looks like the same box.
I might invest in one then as I can also try it out on the GTI and take it with me if I scratch that itch

I used the same box I had on my GTI in the R.
The box was fitted within minutes of me arriving home in it after collecting the car, that's how much difference it makes!

The slight difference between the GTI and R is in the ECU throttle mapping as the R is a bit keener to rev, however the pedal box sits downstream/upstream of this and both cars seem to have the same accelerator pedal resistance program in the chip at the top of the pedal itself as both had the same dead initial response, as did the 150GT TDI I had recently.
Which is an overly complicated way of saying you might want to run the R on a very slightly different setting to a GTI.
I'd think the GTD on one of the maximum settings would feel like a real torque monster.

The explanation of the difference between the GTI and the R is good (as usual :-), and explains why those with a pedal box on a GTI are finding the Sport+ setting preferable to the Sport setting which to me is the sweet spot for the R.  Most I know with pedal boxes fitted to R's are not using anywhere near the max setting, likely down to the difference in ECU Throttle map.

Hi buddfridge - just wondered how you are now getting on with your pedalbox, any negatives or smiles all the way?

Also dave7268 - how are you getting on with the tuning box?

Cheers!

I'm planning on asking my missus for a pedal box come birthday time in September.
Really fancy one now, but she struggles getting me something I actually want every year, so this will kill two birds with one stone.
I know what you're thinking.....'what a thoughtful husband Kalimon is, I really need to be more like him'

I just had one for my Birthday, Kalimon. Same situation - hard to buy for!

Going to fit it this afternoon and will be back with a GTD report.

When people buy these boxes are they considering either the JB1 or this box?

They both seem to be the same price. is the JB1 a better investment for the first mod?

Hardly any negatives really the only one I have found is its not as smooth changing from the lower gears but I think that's my foot not letting the clutch pedal fully up before I try and slip it into gear. I slipped it back normal yesterday and really didn't like that experience, it feels to timid for my liking.

One thing that has been a surprise is that my mpg figures have not really changed, I had a run out over the moors 60 mile trip and averaged just over 40mpg in sport mode with the box at my favourite setting of sport+ and two lights, that +40 mpg is the best return yet out of the car but I have only done 1800 miles.

I would definitely recommend this pedal box to anybody running a gti, I am having so much fun that I really haven't even tried all the variations available ie trying the pedal box as it is but the car on normal or eco...it's just to hard to slip out of fun mode.

The pedalbox is unrelated to the tuning box and personally I'd get the pedal box first. In fact I did.
The pedalbox can be fitted whilst the car is running in then add the tuning box later.

I've had both a DTUK and JB1.
The only downside of the DTUK is that it needs to be wired direct to the battery. If you're an arse like me and go off leaving the box in the engine bay for a few days you could well come back to a flat battery. Anyone sensible would unplug the box from the loom and fit the blanking plate.

There are quite a few differences between JB1 and DTUK, the chief upside of the JB1 is that it plugs into the fuel rail as well as boost and is technically more adjustable. However the DTUK works well enough, delivers the goods and is a lot more easily adjustable.
The DTUK also feels more robust.

Good idea! Unfortunately my birthday is not until March  Having said that, it'll be my half century so perhaps I deserve something in advance?
