Does the Golf save the last used driving mode?
« on: 25 June 2016, 10:58 »
Just wondering if the last used driving mode is saved i.e. Sport mode is selected and I come back to my car the next day and Sport mode is already selected. In my BMW, if I select Sport mode and I turn off the engine, it defaults back to Normal mode. It's a bit annoying really as you can feel the difference in power and I always stick it into Sport mode. How is it with the Golf?

It's supposed to remain in the last mode used on the golf.

The only exception is with the dsg box, it will default back to normal when you switch off.

Like others have said it's meant to retain the previous setting. However with the earlier golfs if say you switch it off when it was on Sport, when you start it again it still says sport but has actually reverted back to normal.

If you search on here you'll see it being discussed quite a bit. Some folk claim it was fixed with a firmware update but I don't think mine was so when I get in I toggle it to normal then back to sport just to be sure.

Remember, as noted in the recent 'eco vs standard' thread, the engine power setting is just the throttle map.

Also as I've mentioned in another thread somewhere, don't try to switch modes immediately as soon as you start the car. If the head unit hasn't finished initialising (e.g. satnav has finished initialising) I have found it will get stuck in the same mode until you turn off and on again.

I set mine to Individual, with my own selection of settings, a few weeks ago and nothing seems to have changed.

This was certainly still the case late last year.  My '65 plate DSG default back to normal D after ignition off, this is the case even is it was in Sport/Race mode or even in Individual mode with gearbox set to Sport. Everything else remains active in whatever the last mode was except the gearbox.  No big deal really, easiest thing is just to nudge the stick (if DSG) in S on startup.

Perhaps it has changed since then?

So a GTD DSG with Sport & Sound will save the sportier sound setting, but the gearbox will revert back to Normal setting, requiring a a nudge into S as Booth11 has mentioned?
