Parasitic drain
« on: 29 May 2016, 01:47 »
Hello again.

I am learning new things everyday about cars. As mentioned earlier I went out to the car and the sunroof would not work. I left the car for a week and now the battery is dead.

So most likely I have a parasitic drain, faulty circuit etc.

Just want to know if the mk3 has only one fuse box...(driver's side) . Please let me know if there are more than one.

Most likely it will be the windows as they were disconnected when I got the car. Also the radio stays on without the key in the ignition. Either way wouldn't mind finding out as would simply pull the fuse for the culprit when I park the car up.

Thanks in advance.

Yes just one fusebox there are a couple more fuses in the engine bay next to the coolant bottle but that it.

sounds like your ignition switch needs replacing -radio staying on

It is likely to be breaks in the cables going to the window motors at the door hinges

I've checked all the fuses and they are fine..however the voltage drop is significant when I put the battery on...it goes from 11.74V to around 8.5V...thus even without starting the car.....so the drop is significant..I removed the fuse for the radio and it went up marginally...didn't try the other fuses as there is no point...I'm not an electrician so won't get to the bottom of it...nay just have to buy a new battery and just disconnect it every time I shut it of...it is a pain...:(...I've just about given up on fixing VWs at present..) was ok before MOT but not ok after...roof stopped working and then this...
