VW Heritage window seal
« on: 22 May 2016, 13:00 »
So I thought I'd review the window seals I got from VW Heritage. Bought 2 new rear window seals for a 3 door. Had them professionally fitted. All seemed good until we had a down pour last nite. The water had come in from around the glass!!... as in run down the window, got between the seal and glass, got under the glass and come up the other side of the seal into the car!! Not too happy for obvious reasons. The seal itself is a cheaper repo, the rubber seams softer, almost too flexible!! Not a very good fit either! Unless I need to wait 20 years or so for the rubber to firm up?!?
So if your thinking of buying some I would avoid the heritage ones!!!

That's a pretty big failure! Have you spoken to Heritage? Well worth giving them a call.

I had the same issue with the heritage seals
They are thinner and do not make a good tight fit to the glass

Unless your old ones are falling apart you are better off just trying to rejuvenate them with some form of polish

WTF!!

I'm blaming this on the sh!t window seal!! I was refitting the rear door cards this aft, and as I was trying to get the top of the door card over the clips that sit along the bottom edge of the window frame, I had to lift the bottom of the window seal to feed the door card under. Gods honest truth here I sh!t you not, I literally lifted the bottom corner of the seal up to start to feed over the door card and the glass, seal and all just fell from the car and smashed all over the drive! By some miracle the local scrappy had 1 mk2 in, complete with window so I've managed to get a replacement in. A nice green tint window to go with my other non green tint windows ;-) . But in all seriousness, I will be contacting VW HERITAGE and seeing what they have to say!

So just a quick update!!..  I got in touch with VWHeritage and explained about the window seals and how poor they were. They have since been back in touch and explained that the seals that I purchased were a cheaper version, but still should not leak. They say that they have a higher quality version, and have offered these in replacement for the ones that are on the car. Well, the replacement seals turned up yesturday and I'm glad to say first impression are good. Instantly I can see there of a thicker quality rubber and feel a LOT firmer. Also unlike like the cheaper version sat in my car, you cant tell where seal is joined. I'll be getting the old ones out and the new ones in sometime next week fingers crossed, so will let you's know how they perform!

I'm glad to report the replacement seals are a million times better. Oddly enough I had them fitted on the weekend just gone. The replacement seals they originally sent were wrong, as they sent two passenger side seals, one of which was joined the wrong way round! However the seals they sent second time round were good. There a nice tight fit around the glass and an even better fit in the frame. With the better quality seals the window isn't in until its in!!. ( you'll know what I mean if you get some). The cheap repo seals dont have a second inner lip, which means the seal what seats on the inside of the frame also has to sit over the door card. Bad idea! The better quality replacements seal are a lot thicker and have two inner lips, one to seal around the frame, and one to sit over the door card, which gives a nice tidy finish! If you look on the heritage site the seals are around £60 each, not cheap, but unless you want your sills to rust from the inside out, as the cheap repos leak, and your windows not to fall out, in my opinion its a sound investment! Oh and finally a pic of the leaky cheapo repos...
