Standard rear Tint or Darker rear tint.

Matter of taste really. Went with the standard one on mine that gives a nice effect without too much contrast which is associated with aftermarket tint in my mind. And it's not that any rear passenger will ever complain about getting too much sunlight with standard 60%

I have a tungsten silver gti with the  darker tinted glass
my previous mk 7 gti was white with standard tint 
it is slightly darker  but works well on  tungsten silver
from the inside there is hardly any difference looking out
As was stated it may look to dark on darker colours

I think it would look ok on silver or white or red. Not so good on all those dark colours.

I don't think I'll bother to spec it on my next one though (it wasn't even an option on my current car from 2+ years ago I think)

Here's my Carbon Steel Grey GTD with 90% tint

Its very subjective. I think the opposite from folk on here in that it stands out more if you have a light coloured car as its a much bigger contrast. I think with the darker cars it blends in more.

Thanks for all you help, and those pictures to compare, one final question, The rear view from the mirror with the darker tint is it hard to see out of the back with it?

The other guy can answer specific to the Golf but I have limo tints in my T5 and on a grey day it's almost pointless having a rear window but on brighter days you can see pretty well but nowhere near as easy as normal privacy glass.

My own daily driver (Audi) has darker glass than the Golf and it's perfectly fine. I would decide if you like the look of the darker glass and base your decision on that.

There's no problem seeing out the back with 90% tint, auto dimming mirrors work exactly as they should as well

I have opted for the 90% tint on our 3dr Reflex Silver R purely as the dog travels in the boot and it helps keeps the sun off him.

Does create a noticeable difference (van effect) but needs must for the pooch
