Dilemma
« on: 19 May 2016, 20:43 »
Due to pick up my new GTI PP Saturday so popped into the dealer to have a sneaky look.
Spotted a dent on the rear wheel arch, right on the line, around a 50p size.
Paint doesn't look damaged.
Take it, or refuse it?

Get them to sort it out or at least agree to sort it. Sadly it's not that uncommon that a new car has to visit the body shop.

Damien, if the paint isn't cracked there's a very good chance it can be fixed in 5 minutes by a decent PDR guy. Not sure what part of Ireland you're in but I know a very good one. Either way it's the dealers job to sort it, just don't let them go down the bodyshop / paint route as it will not need that. If you're otherwise happy with the car I'd take this route.

Thanks Joe, was thinking happy if it's PDR but any paint blending it's a no go.
They confirmed no GTI's can be ordered as its Clubsport only which I don't want as its a bit boy racer with the spoiler.

I had a small dent in a location that I didn't even spot till I got home with our new car in 2014.

Rang the dealer, they looked at it and asked "Micky the Dent" to come to my house to correct it.  It took him about 20 mins from start to finish. He had a bag of equipment including a mirror with I think lines on it, glue type solution and a small slide hammer.  While I was talking to him he told me he had been to Merc and another VAG dealer that day.  He informed me most customer never see how there cars turn up and he corrects them before the customers see them, but mine must have been missed due to its location. Either way it appears to be a common occurrence according to him and made me relax about the car.

No real need to reject, just make sure they are aware of it and noted to be corrected at a later stage to suit you. Then if its not correct to your satisfaction you can take it further.

Enjoy your new car

Good luck with the car Damion ... Could be the last GTI performance to come into Ireland.... For the moment anyway.  Anyone hearing from UK dealers that they can't order GTI Performance version ?

Arches tend to be double skinned......

I had a dent on the arch of my old MK4 which a PDR guy couldn't do due to the arch being double skinned

Not sure how well built the MK7 is so they may be able to pull it out  :undecided:

Pulled out, dent gone but you can still feel bumps on the crease. Not sure I can live with it on a new car.
