Air con Mk7 GTD
« on: 07 May 2016, 09:43 »
Our GTD has only got ~500miles in it & ive just noticed this morning that the aircon is not as ice cold as I'd expect for a brand new car...

Has anyone else experienced this with a new mk7?

I know I've heard that new cars often aren't supplied with the aircon system fully charged.

I'm sure the dealer will sort it for us FOC given we've only had it a couple of weeks!

Just check it's not on Eco mode on the driving menu first.

I read that the Mk7 climate control only switches on the air conditioning when it is needed. This is more efficient and helps fuel economy.

Pretty sure it was on its normal setting & then we selected the max a/c button & dialled the temp right down?...

We had ours set on 20'C, driving over to the Lakes yesterday, and it was decently chilly - a little too chilly at times! Didn't seem anything wrong with the cooling capacity at all. I have heard a few comments, though, about the cooling power of current VAG cars.

Have to say that no car I've had since has matched the ability of my Golf GTTDi Mk4 to maintain 22'C all the time, whatever the weather.

My black GTI took about 3 minutes to get cold earlier after sitting in full sun for 5 hours.

Have a word with your dealer about your car if it's not working very well.

You pressed the 'set up' button and checked the setting on the infotainment screen?

Yes I believe so...

Have only driven the car in Normal (& Sport briefly ) so far, and in normal I'm sure it showed the A/C as operating in 'normal' mode when I went hunting through the menus

It should be icy cold. You'd definitely notice it within a couple of minutes if you had it on full blast in a car that's been parked in the sun for a while. I was convinced I had a similar issue with my MK5 GTI many years ago and the dealers thought I was bonkers, they said it was fine. Eventually I persuaded them to check it out properly and it turned out it was leaking gas...
