Does anyone use anything to stop the steering wheel shroud being marked with folk trying to get the key in a non existent hole?

Or better still come across a silicon cover like the ones below but that don't allow the key to be flipped out? Its not so much for us but for when its in the dealers.
Although in saying that because the GTI with keyless isn't mine I still find myself un-flipping the key and initially trying to insert it before I realise

So it's really to stop you doing the damage then Stevie.    I haven't used a case, but every time HWMBO uses the car, I find the blade flicked out.    I have checked for scratches on the steering wheel shroud, so far he's off the hook.

I am the only one that drives my car so I don't bother apart from when the car goes in for service, I cover the area where the ignition would be with masking tape.

I just wrap the key fob with tape when I leave it in for service work.

A work mate of mine picked up a new Passat with keyless yesterday. That car has a keyfob that we should have - and no doubt the mk8 will have. There's no flip out key blade. Instead, if you really need the blade you have to pull it out, bit like a toothpick. Much better.

I've got the lower pictured one and whilst it does the job of covering the key, it doesn't stop the flip action of it (and doesn't fit the best as it's designed for a standard (non GTD/GTI/R) key.

I'd be interested in the top one though - any idea where it's from?

Not sure. There are a few on here though

Unless they are sold as such, I'd suggest that none of the key covers sold would prevent the key blade being opened, as that is a, very much, usual function of the key fob. Looks like tape is the only option.

Yeah that is what I was hoping for. Having a nosey about there have been other folk in forums asking the same thing
