first gti
« on: 04 May 2016, 15:05 »

Hi guys, I picked my gti pp manual up on saturday and decided to do the prep work myself, Its nearly finished just a few more hours and I am there...Just wondering what can I expect in terms of performance ? and whats the best way to drive the car ..meaning the rev range and gear changes, I am running the Gti in right now so under 4000 revs but what can I expect from 4000-6000 if I go into this range ?

A big grin across ya face when you push the gearing.... and yeah I know what you mean bout running in but new cars now don't need it as much now I did hear however try not to get your discs too hot for a few miles give em time to temper and they won't warp.....

First GTI?!! What have been doing with yourself for the last 40 years? Your life must've been empty!

Only kidding! It looks really good, welcome to the fold.
As above, everything on the car needs running in for a few hundred miles just to make sure it's all bedded in ok.
The GTI isn't a car that needs to be thrashed in mk7 guise but it's surprisingly quick and pulls well from minimal revs up to around 5500 ish. It's so smooth the speed is deceptive.
Great cars, very underrated.

I don't think I've taken mine past 3000 revs yet. Not because it's a new car but because it feels plenty quick enough for me as it is.
My fast driving days are over due to an intolerable amount of speed restrictions around Salford/Manchester.
You'll love the car, I can't stop cleaning mine

I have barely pulled away in my car and I am doing over 3000+ revs....  But then I guess it hails form the days of owning Civic Type-R's and having to be heavy with the revs to get it to perform.

Great looking car enjoy.  Although as Exonian says, The GTI is deceptive with speed.  Keep a keen eye on your speedo as it will easily go over the speed limit without feeling like it.

Looks very smart, I had to re-order a GTD again due to projected miles, but I still hanker after it's petrol brother.

I am 44 and am struggling to come up with new excuses to take my wifes GTI out for a blast.

Car arrived with 250 motorway miles on it so figured that was well on it's way to being run it.

It's now got 600 miles on it so starting to rev the nuts off it now. Really comes alive after 5000 rpm.

Goes like stink. Love it.

This looks great! Ur own detail really paid off!  What wax/sealant did you use at the end to get it so shiny

Lots of washes, snow foams, tar remover ,diamond brite, autogleam, next is ironx and finally  Dodo Juice Supernatural Hybrid Car Sealant Wax..the super natural wax is going on this weekend, I was just very patient and very gentle and when I say lots of washes its nine so far and five snow foams..using a lamb wool not with no pressure.
