« on: 03 May 2016, 19:52 »
I found on Mrs P3's iphone there were quite a few apps to use yet on my Samsung Andriod although it connected there was nothing to display!!

Anyone got it working with an android or do I need to download something else?

I've had a fiddle on the wife's R with this. She's got an iPhone and I'e got an Android Sony and we've managed to get them both to work on it.
My sum total conclusion was that the Android one was pointless - there was hardly anything on the screen and I thought it was a bit of a dead loss.
In contrast, I thought the iPhone version was quite funky. There were plenty of icons on the screen and it read her messages out loud which I thought was a useful function.
My Passat doesn't have it but having seen this I'm not remotely fussed. I like my Sony phone and certainly wouldn't change it to an iPhone just to get to use the Car Net.

What apps can you get on the iPhone?? I'm on iPhone and the only app that comes up on mine is tune-in radio app which I'm pleased about as I always use it indoors

On the iphone you can access your music, phone/phone book, maps, spotify, and a few others.
On the android I get nothing.

But on the flip side, my android shows contacts on the cars phone function and can also send and receive texts whereas the iphone won't display contacts and doesn't show any texts.

@Andy did you get anything at all on your android?

I already have access to my music through the USB connection or bluetooth, my phone connects via bluetooth (and can display my contacts) and works with the multifunction buttons on my steering wheel, I have sat nav (discovery pro) and if someone texts me when I'm driving it can wait til I can pay proper attention to read it.

Sorry, but I'm completely underwhelmed by nett app / car play as I already have all the functionality built into the car. I guess it's a different story if you don't have all that stuff already in the car.

Yeah I don't really think it offers much but for £100 it hardly breaks the bank.

I meant the pictures for the contacts.

I think it's a very useful option with an iPhone (CarPlay).  Yes, you can access the same things via various buttons on the media unit , but App-connect is neat, and user friendly - all the necessary things displayed on one screen.  As said there's a few apps that you can get, the Siri reading messages and sending message function is actually quite useful on the move, without distracting you from driving, plus the whole thing looks pretty good IMO.  The only downside is you have connect via sub cable but that's easily hidden away in the central cubby.  I got it bundled with Pro Nav, and it's pretty much all I use now.  One of the best £125 you can spend IMO.

Just sat and had another play on the Android Auto as I was going to take a picture of it to put on here. To be fair, there's no point taking a photo cos it doesn't come up with a grid of apps like the Apple Car one does. Mine just defaulted to my calendar from my phone. There were buttons at the bottom to select a music screen, a contacts one (of which it had uploaded a measly 4!!!!) and a Google Maps one.
I had a play with the big red speaker button and tried saying a few things to it. This I thought was quite funky as it seemed to cope with whatever I asked and responded accordingly and, if there was any doubt (e.g. if you ask it to "ring Fred" and there are several Freds in your contacts) it just talks to you as if it were a real person talking to you t solve the problem or ask for clarity. I presume phones do that to you anyway but I still thought it was quite cool.
Having said all that, it didn't or doesn't do anything I can't do with a couple of presses of a button on the dash somewhere so don't see where or when I would ever bother with it. I also couldn't be bothered to connect it every time.
So, to sum up, since the dealer paid for it after the paintwork cock up I'm ok with it but wouldn't have been too impressed at paying whatever it costs out of my money!!
