I'm helping a mate with he's mk2 16v e reg the prob he has is when driving sometimes it will just Rev it's self up all the way to red line u have to turn it off to stop it any ideas what it could be thanks

This is the wrong sections, I'm sure a mod will move it soon.
But does this happen while in gear? is there a trigger? Is it completely random?

Metering head has been swaped over it will drive fine for an hour or so then will just start reving on its own once it starts doing it it will keep doing it till u leve the car a day or so going to check for air leaks ECt

Check the rubber pipe going into the inlet. And the inlet manifold gaskets aswell

i would be checking the throttle linkage/cable for sticking.
