Not surprised reallly

Massive shame, but like you say unsurprising.  Having seen it with my own eyes at Goodwood, it looked sensational, and would have sold a shed load.  Boo to this news

Funny how people see things differently, I thought it wouldn't sell very well at all.  The price would have made it silly money for a VW that looked like it crash into Halfords.  But i guess thats why we all like different cars..

A Golf that would do 0-60 in 3.9 seconds?  It would have sold!

It looked brilliant in the flesh, certainly better than the GTI CS - IMO.

I had my name down for the R400/420 but started to feel like it wasn't going to happen following the diesel scandal and the fact the person giving it the push was made to leave Volkswagen.
At least we know 400hp is possible for future applications of the EA888 block.
Audi are already increasing the EA888 to 306hp in the new S3 and VW also have it in the to be announced GTI Clubsport S.
Audi has also revised their 2.5 5cyl block to 400hp.
I'm planning to keep my Golf R until the MK8 Golf R arrives which I am guess will be about 20-30kgs lighter than the current model with about 350hp.
We may see a Golf R runout model with more power too with better standard options.

I have to admit I got bored waiting for the and hence the M2

Such a shame but with derv gate an easy target, pitty as would have at least given them some decent press

I hope they do the Clubsport S as sort of floats my boat

R400 would be a car I would have bought, for me at the moment VWs are something you rent

I suspect we may see it in the guise of a regular Golf R MK8 in the near future. Especially with the trend for increasing power output of other hot hatches such as GTI's to near 290bhp or even tipping just over 306bhp on the CLubsport S, VW will need to continue distinguishing the R as the flagship model and keep it a safe distance in regards to performance over the GTI in order to sell them.

I would predict the next Golf R would be similar in performance to what the Golf R400 may have been, but watered down in the looks department.

As a side note I also like the look of the Golf R400, it is what the current golf R should have looked like.

Some days I think this is a good thing as our R's will hold there value better, as it will still be the top of the range Golf. If they replaced it with a more powerful in the mk7 form it devalues. Its a bit like the GTI I think of buying a standard or PP one its always going to be replaced with the Limited Edition one (Ed 30, 35, ClubSport).
Diagonally parked in a parallel universe.

I wouldn't be surprised if Volkswagen increased the Golf R facelift to 306bhp, maybe also a run out model at the end of the MK7 production run with 345bhp.
