Nav Pro "losing" DAB signal
« on: 21 April 2016, 11:07 »
Hi all

I've had an intermittent yet repetitive problem with my Nav Pro unit.

Basically, every couple of days when starting up, the unit will not find a DAB signal. It will then find the FM signal and use that (for example, it displays BBC Radio 1 (FM) ) despite DAB band being selected. It will continue to try to use DAB however and the radio will stop and start as it switches itself automatically between the FM signal and DAB signal.

The only way to fix this that I have found is a reset (press and hold power button for 10 seconds), but sometimes it takes several resets to get it to work.

Has anyone else come across this issue before?
I've not had any luck searching for similar problems but might be searching for the wrong things!

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a bad antenna to me... get your dealer to check...

Is the DAB signal strong enough? Might be a weak signal so it's thinking FM is the better choice?

You've not fitted a dashcam have you?

My DAB hasn't been great over the last week or so either. Stations that were normally good have been falling out.
Anyone know what route the wiring takes to the aerial?

After my boot was full of water I'm starting to think it may have caused problems but it might just be in my head.

Thanks for the replies

No dashcam fitted, so it isn't that

I believe that DAB signal is fine - once reset it can work OK without having moved the car. However I don't know how to check or be sure of this..

Next time it happens I'll not reset it, and arrange for a dealer to see it.
I assume I can just take it to my local dealer rather than the one I purchased from which is a few hundred miles away....?

The MIB 1 is something never loved, have always put it in the average to ok category, quite slow in transitions, and the DAB is part of that, and it might not be down to the MIB itself, it maybe antenna or just a weak signal but the all or nothing nature of digital drives you nuts as it cuts out completely with that crossed ariel sign - just adds to the overall indifference to the media system functionality.

Hoping the MIB 11 with the bigger screen will be greatly improved though do not expect the DAB to be, the technology is great when works but too unreliable to really ever enjoy.

Can check your coverage at http://www.ukdigitalradio.com/coverage/postcodesearch/

Also maybe try turning the auto FM switch off. You can do this in the radio settings.

I had the same issue when I fitted my rear dashcam as the DAB ariel etc is in the rear heated screen area.  In the end I purchased a screened case for my dashcam and this helped to increase the signal by about 90%.

I have Mobius dashcams back & front but the front is still in the standard case with no issues.
