16v no fuel at metering head

Went to start my 1991 16v for first time this year but there is no fuel getting to the metering head.
I have checked the relay and fuse and jumped the relay but no sound from pump? I can hear the lift pump in the tank but not the main pump. Is there some way to check the fuel pump. I did replace the pump a few years ago with a new bosch one. When it went before it got real noisy before it conked out! It seem strange that it was working fine last year before laying up car for winter.
One more thing fuel was coming out of the return pipe to metering head when cranking motor? But not delivery pipe.

it could be that your pump has seized due to lack of use. I had one like that once so I removed it from the car and left it soaking in diesel overnight. then next day I powered it up with a spare battery and spun it forwards and backwards (switching the polarity) and it freed of in no time

That sounds likely , how do you connect to battery?

just use 2 wires with spades on them. the terminals on the pump are marked + and - if you look closely. I take it you checked the wiring to the pump for a live??? mind you, if the lift pump works then the power should be at main pump to. infact, there is an electrical connector under the boot carpet just forward of the little fuel tank cover. check that first

Yes definitely power at lift pump I can here it buzzing away.

Give the under car pump a little tap with a hammer.

Or connect it up to a battery as already said.
It has proberly just siezed because of lack of use

Got the fuel pump out unfortunately the fuel line snapped as was seized solid! Connected up to battery but it looks like it is seized up as whole pump tries to turn! Also had to get the fuel accumulator out because of broken fuel line to pump is broken, not sure if I'm able to undo the pipes on accumulator as they are rusted solid.
Looks like it getting expensive !

I know where theres some 16v pump spairs.
Clippeejay had my old pump for the housing so as acxumelater. Im sure I already managed to undo all the unions.

Today I put in new fuel pump and new stainless steel fuel pipes from VW heritage. The car started ok but have a fuel leak coming down the side of fuel pump housing from fuel filter side. In the end had to take of housing off the car! I'm wondering if it might be the seam on housing that is leaking? Is there any way of fixing the seam? I would put a new housing on if I could find one? Any one else had this problem? It definitely was not leaking before.

Seal in the housing OK

Unfortunately housings braking is common. Last time I needed one I had to use a mates 8v housing he had kicking about. But if you get it all apart it could be plastic welded possibly
