My gti is misfiring..what could it be?
« on: 16 April 2016, 14:54 »
Hi guys my car is not running right at all and im really annoyed...i had an oil leak which came from the hpfp...so i got the gasket replaced and fitted a new o ring as the old one was torn..after that the oil and filter were replaced as it needed a service...went to work same night...the car ran 100% ...the next day the car struggled to start choking and then started very rough..

.the engine management light came on so i got a diagnostic done and it came up as oil pressure switch and said the car is running rich(car has not been mapped) so i got the switched changed and the spark plugs looked knackered so i got them relaced to...th car ran fine for about an hour and then it was back to square one...i was driving the light blinked and then went off...when i accelerate i can feel the engine shaking...idle isnt as smooth as it was as well..anybody know what the possible issues could be? Thanks

This is exactly what happened to mine and the chain has now jumped. Vw have said it is the oil pump and regulator unit. My advice would be dont drive it as it will only get worse. I am currently arguing with vw as i had the chain and tensioner changed using their parts and somehow they are saying the oil pump caused the chain to jump. Seems to me they are avoiding any responsibility at all costs. Get it checked out or you will be in the same boat as me. Vw have said i need a new engine. Let me know how you get on.

I checked the timing and mine is fine...does your struggle to start and then when it does.it smells of fuel? i got it plugged into vagcom and it said misfire in cylinder 2 so i think i need coilpacks..or some people are saying new injectors...im still trying to narrow down the problem

Swap the coilpacks around and see if the misfire moves

If it does then you need a new coilpack. I would replace the whole set though as usually the problem moves onto the next weakest

Yes mine did the exact same thing. The mechanic repeatedly checked the timing which was fine and then two weeks ago it struggled to start. and when it did start it had a rough idle so i called the aa and had the car recovered to a local garage who could not figure out what was wrong with it so he sent it to vw halifax who have said the oil pump failed and the chain has jumped. even now when you get the engine started it is still relatively quiet but when you try to drive the car it feels rough and laboured. The day i had it recovered if i left it in drive when i stopped at a set of lights it got louder and louder as though its about to explode and it made a horrible noise it reverse.

my one doesn't get louder and louder..its just has a rough idle...but if I leave the car for a few hours and go to start it it struggles to start and then when it does I can smell fuel and my exhausts are black from fuel...ive asked a few people and they are saying the mechanic shouldn't have opened the hpfp..maybe I have air locked the fuel lines causing it to struggle..will take it to a specialist on Wednesday...I just want it fixed...I hope its nothing expensive as id probably cry :(

See Rhyso's post above. Rough idle, smell of unspent fuel! check your coil packs.
