How low should I go??
« on: 28 September 2005, 11:14 »
I have 2 sets of Lowering springs one is 55mm, one is 80mm, i have a valver and am not sure if i want to go as low as 80 mm again, as this is what i had on my driver, despite it looking great it was too low

I was going to lower my valver 55mm but after looking through the galleries of various cars i noticed a grey valver that is quite low and like how it sits, is it worth going that low again?

At the front it looked ok when i lowered my driver 55mm, but tends to be too high at the back, so i was thinking goin 80m at the back and 55 at the front, wot do u think?

cheers

paul

i'd put the same springs on all round. it depends on where you plan on driving it as to how low you go. if you use it every day and use multi storey car parks, go over alot of speedhumps etc then stick to 55mm,
if you mostly drive on nice roads, don't use multi storeys etc then you'll probably be fine with the 80's. also i'd recommend getting shorter dampers especially with the 80mm or you'll bottom out before you know it and the shocks will last 5 minutes!!

mines lowered 110mm on coilovers and does require some planning when driving certain places!!

if its sitting too high at the front get those things (somebody help me with the name) that goes at the top of the front struts and lowers the front 15mm.

Fancy selling me the 55's if ya go for the 80's

Consider doing the bump stops and top mounts at the same time too, if they havn't been done.

... it's turned into a fashion show for poofters.

Good Point Joe, yea i do drive it everyday and tend to come across speed bumps all over the place, so will prob be 55mm.

So, sorry warren, u can buy my 80mm ones if you want!?

I had a Mark 2 driver had some shortend shocks and everything on it but not sure if the struts will fit on a valver? coz the idea was to take them off that and put those on aswell coz despite them being cheap they were pretty good. They are shortened shocks that are 30% uprated. Suppose the best way is to try it, i will have to take the whole strut out anyway so might aswell check.

80mm  eh how much u want for em? oh i live in northern ireland, so need to factor in postage  :undecided:

Might be interested. Will see how much shorted dampers will cost.

Cheers, Warren.

ha ha it used to scrape the floor and it used to drive me mad!!

Warren. Well if you want i will sell you the whole lot, struts, shortened dampers and 80mm springs for 60 quid then postage on top of that. I bought them from a company call venom motorsport as there own in house brand of stuff, and to be honest i was very impressed with the shocks, i managed to out run my mate in his 1.9 205 gti in my 1.6 driver with that suspension on!!

cheers
