Best Golf R colour
« on: 12 April 2016, 17:34 »
Just found this on carwow and thought it was interesting, but most interesting was the colour percentages

https://www.carwow.co.uk/blog/best-golf-R-options

Not much liking for Reflex Silver or Oryx White, but surprised the Red is as popular as it is compared to white.

I was going to go for a Clubsport in silver before the price came out but not sure if I am brave enough on the golf R.
On Order - Mk 8.5 Clubsport Pure White, Queenstown, DCC.
MK 7.5 R Pure White, Pretoria Silver, DCC, Rear Camera.
Gone - MK 7 GTI Carbon Grey, Rear Camera, Service Pack.
Gone - MK 6 GTI  Reflex Silver, Monza Shadows, RCD 510, Rear Camera, Bluetooth, Tyre Pressure Sensor, Xenons Convenience pack, Service Pack :)
Gone - MK 5 GTI Reflex Silver, Monza II 18's, Luxury Pack, Mulitchanger

Has to be black, especially if you look after you cars or lease them and don't give a sh!t
Lapiz is the colour you see most so probably the reason I dislike it so much.
Only other option for me would be Tornado Red.
5 DR Mk 7 GTI PP
Carbon Grey, Dynaudio, Car Net App, High Beam Assist, Rear View Camera. Collected 14/03/16

The reason Oryx White is not as popular is due to the price.  It is double the price of all metallic colours let alone Pure White which if I am correct is free of charge base colour.  Oryx White for most people will not warrant the extra cash for the subtle difference it appears compared to Pure White unless seen in certain light conditions.  However when seen in certain light conditions it is in a different league of it's own.

Oryx White is infact plain old Pure White with a pearlescent coat, and laquer on top.  This is why it costs more due to the extra coats.  However it is still very expensive and probably could be more affordable.

If I am correct in thinking, Oryx White originated as a signature colour for the Golf R on the MK6 or earlier then it was made available for other Golfs on the MK7.

As a side note I have just ordered a Golf R in Oryx White and currently own a Golf GTI PP in Oryx White as well, so you could say I am in the minority of people who would have a Golf R in Oryx White.  For the Clubsport I would spec Oryx White as well especially as it is the signature colour for this model and it looks great with the red accents of the GTI

std white, or "undercoat" if you prefer, is a paid for colour too! VW never miss a trick from even the plain white colour now its popular.

It is probably a reflection on the number of leased cars about as well given the premium for metallic over the term

I've gone for white on the R Estate for this reason and will just call it Bosch

So you even pay for base colours now as well.  You have got to hand it to VW, if they can make money on something then they will.

These are just configurations so therefore red will be the most popular for people just running a "no options" click through to find out the headline discount, possibly for people comparing costs with leasing?
It's a shame it's not on actual orders.

Being as common folklore suggests 90% of all Golf R orders were made in 2014 and they were nearly all in red and just happened to be 50p a month leases that will all hit the market in one go any time soon, thus crashing Golf R used prices for ever and ever I'm guessing red will actually be the most common colour.

From ones I've personally seen on the roads I'd say blue and white seem to be the most common.

Best colour for the R Estate.

Colours I see most are Lapiz, TR and White.  My favourite colours for the R are Reflex Silver and LSG.  And I'm not normally a fan of silvers on Golfs but these two just seem to work on the R in particular.  Oh, and DBP's not bad either.

Oryx white was a £1145 option when I got my CC and I was told that there was less than a handful of CC's in the colour. On dull days it looks white but on sunny days or under lights at night I don't think there is a better colour on the CC at least.
