Mk7 GTI Turbo Fail
« on: 12 April 2016, 14:52 »
Hi Guys

A friends GTI has been recovered to local VW garage with suspected turbo failure. Its a April 14 Car with 8K miles and has not been driven hard whatsoever.

The car was been driven on Sunday and about 3500RPM loss of power then loads of smoke from exhaust. Car pulled to side of road and recovered.

Local VW garage have ordered turbo and said it would take 3-5 days for part to come in(no courtesy car by the way). I'm not sure if they are going to inspect the engine as I would have thought turbo failure could potentially damage the engine.

Thanks

We've had a few documented on here. It seemed to be more common with R's.
It's quite an impressive sight when a turbo blows, possibly not for the car's occupants but certainly for passers by.
I had a turbo hose come off on a mk5 Golf on the motorway and the plume of smoke looked like a downed Spitfire in a WWII movie!

Mine failed in a completely unspectacular way, the car just drove like a non-blown 150ps 2.0 for a few miles on a couple of occasions and was then replaced.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....
