240PS Bi Turbo GTD with 4Motion.

Also just noticed the Octavia VRS 184 is now available in 4WD. Not fair

My previous A3 was the 170 bhp unit and Quattro and you can specify the Quattro on the 184 bhp and soon to be 190 bhp units.

So its always been possible to do, but if they do that for the GTD, they would have to option it for the GTI and both would dilute the appeal of the R with the increased traction and economy of GTD/GTI with 4WD.

Unless they produce the car mentioned above, a GTD - R with significant raise in bhp and market as an additional model to the GTD then doubt ever happens.

Its easy to market in the A3 as the only model that stands apart is the S3 you bolt together anything else you want, where as VW have 3 distinct performance Gold bands and they would not want to damage one with raising another.

If it was available then would definitely be top of my list with the economy/performance balance

my 1-2-3 for next car all have 4WD its the only thing missed from moving from A3 to GTD

1. DBP Golf R
2. A3 Sportback 190 BHP Quattro (facelift)
3. S3

When the facelift CC came in a few years ago 4WD was an option on the TDi in Germany but not here.

Now I'd buy one of those. But.. sadly.. I can't see VW ever producing one.

Equally why couldn't we have a GTI with 4Motion! Too close to the R that's why

I know of a mk6 gti In Belgium with the R 4wd system, it needed an R boot floor to make room for the diff. The drive train came from the R doner car. He apparently built it because he wanted an r but was attached to the gti he already had.

Vw will not do it as there is little point to them, you may as well buy an r and fit the gti grill and headlights, that's what I would do as I always liked the red stripe gtis and g60s had. And I don't like chrome.

How about a GTD Performance Pack (if it hasn't been mentioned before)?

With an extra 10ps, electronically controlled limited slip differential and Golf R brakes. That would probably mean around 200ps in Mk8.

One thing I would like to see is a much more aggressive looking R with more interesting wheel options and more standard kit.
Not that I'd buy one but I can't help thinking that it should look so much cooler than it does currently. Make the front look as aggressive as the back.
It might stop people jumping ship to BMW and the like.

Its about finding that balance for the Golf as understated is the appeal for many including me, broader, squat with elements that allude to performance but do not scream it, but think the same, in that the front end could have been a little more aggressive, maybe feature the intakes more? you could even say the Clubsport stole the front end the R should have had.

But for the informed, you still do pick them out quite readily especially in motion with the twin DRL coming in your direction as well as Lapiz catching eye.

To the less informed you will likely miss its the top performance 'race' Golf, most still think thats the GTI

None of that puts me off but agree they just missed the balance on this aspect.

I'll second the less rattles and creakes, flux capacitor? Maybe an optional extra.

How about Overboost?

The Clubsport gets roughly 10% extra power when the kick down switch is used. So a GTI PP would go from 227bhp to 250bhp when needed.

Or would it be easier to just increase the power without effecting mpg too much?
