Just a trim piece or should it be together?
« on: 08 April 2016, 10:48 »
I was recently under the bonnet and noticed the plastic that runs along the top and around the headlight doesn't appear to be sat right, I took a quick pic and circled the bits that I'm talking about.  It's as if it should be clipped together.  I've never taken any specific notice before so don't know if it's always been like that, I wondered if anyone else has the same thing on their headlights or if it should actually be fully clipped together and tight?

Yup, they shouldn't be like that, looks like somebody has tried or has taken the headlight out in the past?

Is it just a trim piece or is simply not quite clicked together and open a bit? Do you think if I try and take off the bar that goes from the wing to the grill I'd get more of a view?  Is the bar important or can it simply be taken off and put back on?

I can't really make out where your lugs are compared to the pins below but I would say that is normal.

On both our Golfs the lugs don't really do anything. Its not as if they are tight over the pins below to secure the lights. In fact on one lug on both lights the lug is raised so its not even anywhere near the pin below and this is the same for both our Golfs.

Both parts are part of the light housing so if they had taken a light out that parts goes with it. There is a 3rd lug next to the wing. This is securely in place and definitely different from the other 2?

How is that one on yours?

I can't get the two pieces to lock together, do you think if I took the grill off I'd be able to get around and under the headlight to maybe see a bit more of what is going on?

Does this mean that the headlight is technically not sealed and split open a bit like an Easter Egg?

That doesnt look like part of the headlight. You could unattach the headlight and see if you can clip that back in.
Just might have to have beam alignment checked after.

I had a look at mine and I don't think it's part of the headlight unit.
I'd get your dealers opinion on it rather than messing about with it.

At the risk of repeating myself   It is part of the headlight and I'd put my mortgage on it its normal.

Have a look at this video and you'll see for yourself.
