Plugged the car onto computer today and it cam up with "throttle positioning/ improbable reading"

That's what it sounds like, but the throttle body got swapped with a working one and that includes the potentiometer I'm pretty sure!
I'm thinking electrical, I've tested all the wires coming out of the throttle body for continuity and the ones from heat sensor, all good.

Finally fixed yeah
It turned out that the "throttle positioning sensor" needed to be reset, an auto electrician, with car specific software, did that.
Thanks for all that replied and I hope it can help someone else.

Yes it needs to be matched..... VCDS can do that, for a mk3 you would only need a kkl cable and VCDS lite..... even with registration it's not too expensive.
