My sons MK3 Golf 1.4 ABD Engine, single point fuel injection is only doing about 15mpg if we are lucky. The temperature gauge wont go above 70c when driving.
The car had been sitting for a while before we got it and use to stall fixed with new dizzy.
So far new coil, plugs, dizzy - vacuum pipes replaced.
3 Temperature sensors tried so far.
2 Thermostats in case they are opening too early - genuine one on the way ( not available at the time )
VCDS no errors
Timing sorted due to this forum - thanks
When it is sitting still and running the temp will get up to about 90c and the fan comes on so it looks like the temp gauge is accurate.
Plugs are very black so cleaning frequently.
Lambda problem removed from CAT runs the same (did have a damaged wired now repaired), also disconnect and runs the same.
Disconnect temperature sensor and the engine seems to run the same - had expected it to go into some default mode but it doesn't seem to change the engine revs at all ( genuine sensor ).
Recent MOT and emissions were ok and CAT doesn't rattle.
Any ideas as it is not turning out to be the economical first car we had hoped for.
thanks
