Bonnet release cable installation?
« on: 03 April 2016, 10:19 »
Hi,
Small issue that I really need help with. My lock mechanism to close and open the bonnet was playing up because the bonnet would not close and while in the process of fixing the issue, I kind of pulled on it a little too hard and the plastic guide on the lock cable broke of making it useless.. I then had to order a new cable however I have no idea how it is meant to be reinstalled onto the car. It was a pain to remove it as I had to pull the release cable with some force because there was something holding it in place and I couldnt see anything behind the headlight and the black trim that the cable was behind... my question is... does any one have the slightest clue on how the new cable will be installed onto the car? frown emoticon the lock mechanism has been fixed now but the cable is the new issue frown emoticon

That is what the cable looks like ^^^^^

Thank you.

It goes into a little regtangular plastic box. Like a brake lever for a push bike does. The the box closes and clips to the slam panel.
For extra safety I put a tiewrap around the nox lid because if it opens itll come off I think.
If its lever end in car you have to remove the lever to fit. Its fidly but you can do it. Trim has to come off aswell if im remembering right.

If its latch end it hooks in. Theres little clips that hold the cable on the slam panel in various places aswell.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, I understand the bit that it has to go inside the box and then close the little box etc however I am asking how do I route it to that little box..

Here is a picture .... The red arrow points to the routing.. I am asking if there are any clips behind where the cable comes from or holes that the cable must go through to secure it in place or can I just route it which ever way as long as it gets to the little box and isnt stretched or bent? When removing my old cable... there was a lot of friction behind the black plastic (the red arrow in the picture) thats why before putting the new one on, I want too know if there is something there which the wire needs to go through or was there friction only because it was dirty etc??

We are getting somewhere...

Thanks.

As long as you have slotted the new cable into the groove to stop the outer moveing when pullin the release cable I thing the reast just tooks into the slam panel.

If there was a mk5  in the yard id look and take a picture for you

Hi,

That explains it :) I just thought the cable has to go through some clips etc which would be near to impossible to do as you cant see anything behind the black panel. No that is fine, you have helped me enough :)
