E30 radiator
« on: 26 March 2016, 14:29 »
Now then, just wondered if anyone has the BMW E30 radiator setup in their golf. Looks quite nice when its all plumbed in. I'm thinking of doing this with mine. I'm just looking for some pointers as to, can you use the original hoses, can it be adapted to take the coolant sensor, and how much clearance do you have at either side, between radiator and headlights (enough to mount a FMIC?)

Ooooorrrrrrrr, alternatively, is anyone running a smaller radiator to allow for a larger FMIC, and what setup do you have?

Cheers as always!!!

What engine you running, out of interest.

Also interested in this.
It's a mk2. Fill it, drive it, enjoy it.

AGG bottom end PB head. Plan is to turbo it! Nearly got everything I need but I'm ideally needing a bit more clearance up front for the intercooler inlet and outlet, hence a smaller radiator!

On my 20vt I had a standard ras qith thw fan coqling. Used a saab intercooler and cleared inlet and outlet.
Even had the rad slightly tuched under the slam panel.

...by fitting a G60 engine and management with a turbo instead of a supercharger right?

No no no! G60 management, G60 throttle body, modified loom for ce1, stock 2e and PB head, RHB5 turbo running @ 8-10psi and a custom head gasket instead of stacking. Oh and an intercooler up front!

Depends how much the compression is dropped. And im not clued up in 2e interbals and how much they take powerwise.

Sorry, slight brain freeze there!! Stock AGG bottom end! Compression ratio is 9:6:1 I do believe. Looking to drop it to around 9:5. Having done a bit of reading from yesturday, 8psi. 10psi and I risk picking up the internals from the side of the road unless I drop the compression more, but then I'd be getting some lag. 8psi @ 9:5 ratio seems to be a happy medium.

standard agg cr is 10-1. but if you have had the pb head skimmed at any point it will be slightly over that. 2 mls headgaskets stacked should work fine for a decent compression drop. also I would be trying to get the intercooler mounted in front of the radiator as you want it to be the first thing the air hits. iirc the 2e bottom end had slightly stronger con-rods than the agg. not 100% certain on that 1 though. I would at least invest in some arp rod bolts just to be sure
