Hi All.

Washing the car this afternoon and managed to trip myself up on the hose. Upshot is a chip on my A pillar and a pressure washer water jet gouge in the rubber trim alongside.

Can anyone tell me if the strip can be replace without a visit to VW? If I can source the part I'd sooner change it myself and ease my dented pride. Any advice on the part number would be appreciated. Also is a touch up paint stick easy to acquire in carbon grey?

They can be replaced quite easily, they just clip behind the windscreen edge, you could remove it with something like a wallpaper scraper with some protection or ideally a trim removal tool if you have one.

Thanks Jimble.

I'd hoped that was the case. Will call VW tomorrow and chase up a spare. The chip came from my watch clasp. Schoolboy error on my part - I usually remove my watch. Still don't know how I've manage to trip. same drive / equipment and wellies I've had for years.

Hadn't realise the washer could do that sort of damage. I don't have a power lance so I'd assumed damage couldn't be done. Always keep the tip well away and use it for rinsing only.

Those trims pop off easily enough. Probably relatively inexpensive to replace too. That chip is in a location too that'll barely be visible once touched up. Could have been worse!

What a nightmare, so unlucky
You could post that picture on the 'Factory Purple' thread that appeared a few months back though

Mrparkuk - jolly bad luck that! For trim removal, I find a freezer scraper quite good if you have one, nice wide plastic blade.

Try this

Have you tried it? Looked good on the video but what about close up? My car's paint is chipping really well  so need to decide what to do very soon.

You don't need any prying tool, you can pop the trim with your bare hands. Saw that when I had my windscreen replaced a year ago. Regarding the chip on the pillar, it can easily be touched up. I can also see the paint a bit scratched near the chip. That should buff out with a bit of paint polish.

Bad luck! As others have said the paint touch in will be fine and you'll stop seeing it after a short while.

Trim wise, best I can ascertain on ETKA is that it'll cost about £12, so all in not too bad.
