General purpose microfiber cleaning cloths
« on: 15 March 2016, 10:07 »
Morning,

I genuinely use cheap microfiber cloths for applying wax, is there any benefit in changing to a known brand, if there are what are people using at the moment.

Not what you’ve asked for but I wouldn’t use microfiber cloths to apply wax. I’d use foam pads to apply it and use CarPro BOA orange microfiber towels to remove it.

+1 for this - the Car Pro microfibre cloths are about the softest thing you'll ever feel

Some of the more general purpose MF's can be a little on the abrasive wide and are best avoided on your paintwork.  Ok for wiping off tyre dressing though.

My preferred applicator for appying wax are these ones http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/accessories/autofinesse-wax-mate-applicator/prod_1082.html

But I often use the flat type for applying sealant and other stuff and use either Chemical Guys ones http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/accessories/wax-polish-applicators/chemical-guys-ufo-applicator-pad-each-/prod_1449.html

or WoWo red foam applicators (ignore the bottle)

For buffing off wax I use WoWo Microfibres - website is being updated atm.  They are a lighter fabric weight than many but have found them to be very good for all manner of jobs - especially buffing off wax.

For a final all over buff I love DoDo Juice Fantstic Fur, as they are super plush.  I've had mine 4 years now and they are still like new!  http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/microfibre-cloths/microfibre-buffing-towels/dodo-juice-fantastic-fur-microfibre-buffing-cloth/prod_948.html

This can be quite a subjective topic, especially considering how many versions of MF cloths there are!

In terms of applying wax then id always recommend a foam pad as they don't get too 'clogged' up and can be rinsed.

MF Cloths - ours are designed as a tight weave on purpose. These allow for grab without the cloth become 'claggy' thus reducing any risk of marring.

If I was being honest and critical we don't have a long pile buffing MF cloth so I use an Alloy Wheel Drying Towel, which is kept just for that job!

Hope this helps?

Ta

Neil

@wo-wo I see your cloths have big labels.
I was always led to believe labels should be removed as they will cause damage to the paintwork.
Apart from advertising is there any reason to have them on the cloth and have you thought of selling them without the labels?

I always rip mine off which sometimes rips a hole in them.

How do folk find Costco microfibres?

WoWo labels are fine.  They are silky and not scratchy at all.  I've been using my WoWo MF's for ages now and damage inflicted from labels.

This reminds me I need to order another set of cloths as I need more on top of the set I already have. Tried some cheap rolson ones that were reduced in Tesco and they are nowhere near the quality of the wo-wo ones. Now the cheap ones will be exclusively reserved for applying tyre dressing.

@wo-wo - Neil, what info do you need for an order whilst the site is down as presumably the forum discount won't work via amazon?

I've just bought a pack of Costco MF's and they are fantastic.

Cheers Bec wasn't sure as the labels look big compared to the cloths and some of those labels can be as rough as anything.

@kalimon yeah I usually pick up a packet of them every time I'm in Costco. They seem a decent buy. I was just wondering if others had an opinion about them.
