Sounds like it might be a dodgy fuel relay to me as I've had a similar problem where I lost power on mine and then had to let it cool down, although I didn't get the kangaroo bit.

You could try taking it out and giving the connections a clean as these can get loads of crap on them and seeing how you get on.
