Hi all,

Quick question. I hardwired my dashcam and satnav into the car earlier. I had to pop off the dash 'side panel' to get access to a ground point etc, and in the process (stupidly, without thinking) I unplugged the passenger airbag key switch. Now the airbag light is lit on the dash.

What do I need to do to reset it?

Cheers,

G

Your best and possibly cheapest option would be to find somebody with VCDS to to clear the fault code.

Thanks.

So it takes VCDS itself to clear it? Was hoping I could get away with buying a cheap code reader.

What would be the best way of finding out if anyone in and around the North East had VCDS?

Cheers

also, does the light being on mean the airbag system won't work in a crash?

  • VCDS and VCP - fault codes, coding, VIM activation
Airbag system should still work as it will have likely recognised the fault as intermittent (since it detected switch again when you turned ignition on after reconnecting).
Yes it will take VCDS (or VCP or main dealer system) to reset the fault code as it is safety relevant (like most faults on brake and/or airbag system are). Look for someone on the VCDS user list on google maps, sure there is someone in the NE.

thanks for the offers guys, managed (by luck) to find a friendly garage who switched it off for free. Will remember to disconnect the battery before unplugging any sensors in future!

Cheers

So forgive me for being a little bit thick-my airbag light in the middle of the air vents in the center of the dash is on-should it not be?
Also the light at the side of it that says passenger airbag on,is on?
They were on when when I picked the car up, so I never really thought about if they should or should not be on.

They will come of for a short while after starting the car.
They do go off after a few minutes I believe.
