Stage 1 remap advice please
« on: 12 March 2016, 12:56 »
Hi all

I want to get my GTI remapped to stage 1 in the next few weeks and would like to get advice on which tuning company to pick. It seems to be a two horse race between Revo and APR and would to get feedback for.anyone who has a stage 1 from either company or better still has experienced both either as a driver or passenger.

Any other recommendations are welcome.

I'm not a traffic light Grand Prix guy so traction issues in first doesn't bother me.

From what I have read the APR has the most torque but then seems to run out of breath whilst the Revo seems more progressive.

Car is stock apart from an R600 intake.

BTW anyone interested in a DTUK tuning box I have one on EBay so grab yourself a bargain - it is 9 months old and really livens the car up especially in the higher gears.

There are more Revo vs APR discussion on the net than there are tuned cars in England, so my only advice would be to find a tuner that is close to you and that you trust and use whichever map (apr or revo) they sell.

After sales service is often more important that peak figures imo.

Cheers Graham

My closest ones are Regal Autosport and JKM both of which have good reputations but no personal experience of either.

Regarding a suggestion for 2016 - I drove an RS3 a few months back and it had incredible grip and speed and a wonderful noise - I was almost swayed but reality bit and the price tag was just too high. Launch control was bonkers. Out of the cars you list this is the one I would go for.

Hi Paul 70
I can highly recommend JKM as they installed my Revo stage 2. They really know what they're talking about and friendly too boot.
Old, but a serial modder!

Hi Tornado8

Thanks for the reply and I remember your post when you got the remap. That power curve looked very good on paper, how is it in real life? Have you had an issues or EPC lights?

I was tempted to go straight to stage 2 first but I have reservations due to a few people experiencing clutch slippage but this was mostly on US cars. Perhaps the UK clutches are different. Have you experienced any clutch slip? The other reason is traction - how are you finding the traction - I presume it spins pretty freely in first and second even in the dry with full throttle?

Thanks

Paul

I'm only running a DTUK tuning box and I've experienced clutch slip on my UK car.

Was at JKM recently asking about remaps on the MK7 GTI. They said they weren't currently mapping any more manuals because of the clutch slipping issues some have experienced.

Gnasher - how much (how bad) clutch slip have you experienced with the DTUK box?

Thanks for the link.

These cars are bloody quick when remapped
