Which HT Leads?

I'm thinking about getting some new HT Leads as I seem to be getting a weak spark on plug 1. I'll probably follow up with a new coil but thats another topic! I'm having a look around the usual sites, and see I can get a set of 10mm copper core leads, for around £60-£70, or I can get a set of standard HT Leads (6mm I think) for as little as £15.
Are the more expensive option really going to make that much of a difference to the performance of the car compared to the standards, or do they come with a longer life expectancy than the cheap n cheerfulls. Yes you often get what you pay for, but can that extra 4mm really be worth that extra £55?!

In short, I'd spend less on the cheaper ones to see if that solves your issue. If it doesn't then you know the leads aren't at fault! Thicker leads will be better suited to tuned engines where reliable and constant sparks are required for optimal performance.

.....has anyone tried just replacing the wire? I found a website that sells the replacement wire at a fraction of the cost of buying the complete HT Lead. 8mm core & £2.67/m doesn't sound too bad to have a stab at it yourself. At that price its a good way to fill ur Sunday afternoon whilst the missis naffs off to bingo ;-)

Give it a try and let us know how you get on! Making some custom HT leads could be good for those wanting tidy bays or a cheaper way to make something a bit more special for the engine bay.

I would think that 10mm ht leads would be better to stop arcing between them as the insulation is thicker.

I would say copper core for automotive use, although carbon ones would be interesting...
