Hi all, with my new car build, I've ordered the advanced phone prep this time (to get the climate windscreen). Previously when ordering my current car, I looked into the APP, and as far as I could see, the USB socket in the armrest was for charging only and didn't have any data connections.
Well I've just been reading the "Passat 2015 Infotainment and Car-Net" self study guide, and under Phone kits, it has this to say about the "comfort" phone system (as It's otherwise known)
"If the vehicle is equipped with a „Comfort” mobile telephone interface, this will have two Apple compatible USB connections and one AUX-IN connection.
The additional USB connection can be found in the storage compartment of the center console in the area in front of the selector lever.
The USB distributor R293 is used to ensure that two data-enabled USB connections function correctly. It enables the connection of two USB sockets on the USB connection of the control unit 1 for information electronics J794.
With this configuration, the Apple authentication chip is integrated into the USB distributor R293.
U37 - additional USB connection - USB charging socket 1 (data-enabled)
R199 - USB connection Media in - Connection for external audio sources"
It certainly looks like on the Passat at least, both USB sockets are data enabled. Is this also true of the 2016 Golf, or do we still just have one data enabled USB socket (in the forward cubby), and one in the center console that is charge only (no data) ?
