I think you are right about Cost saving. They have Billions of dollars of fines and legal compensation cases in the USA. They need to save Billions of dollars.
Customers can get lost. When a big multinational is in panic mode - as VW are, then saving every penny, and managing their costs by fear, is how they will operate.

The question then is - did VW stop putting this shroud in on models made before dieselgate?
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

I've always found @vwukhelp on twitter to be very responsive

Interesting update... I reached out on Twitter as per the advise above, and got a message back very quickly. Couple of phone calls later and VW Customer Service are all over it. Fantastic service.

No result as of yet, but CS are contacting the dealer to establish whether or not they did actually apply for the warranty claim, or just took a judgement call on whether or not they thought it would be accepted.

They agreed that the trim should last a lot longer than 2 years without flaking off. I emailed them the link to this thread so they could see the pictures and the evidence that other members had trim replaced under warranty.

Been promised a call back before COB tomorrow so here's hoping.

As promised, I got the call.... from the dealer who initially rejected the replacements under warranty. They called to book the car in to replace the start button, gearstick and MDI cable under warranty after instruction from VW UK Customer Services!

Very happy of course, and the helpful team on Twitter sorted it all out.

Work being done next Thursday.

Great result.
What a joke that dealer is.
You would think they would be going all out to do warranty work as its business for them. It sounds like they just knocked it back though without even approaching VW themselves.
