Remote locking problem.
« on: 04 March 2016, 22:41 »
Hi. I'm new here. Forgive me if this is the wrong place to post this and please feel free to direct me to the correct place. I have a mk3 Golf GTI 16v and i had a problem with a blown indicator fuse. I changed that earlier today and now my remote locking isn't working. When I press the key to open the car, the car still makes the noise as if the door has been opened although it hasn't been. The door still opens via the key so i'm a bit stumped really. I've also noticed that the indicators no longer flick on and off when I use the remote to open or lock the car. Can anyone help?

Let me know if this doesn't make a lot of sense. I don't really know how to word it properly.

Thanks in advance

If all your wiring is secure then maybe the unit is on its way out

Could be something in the remote locking kit has blown up wrt indicators.

If you still hear the characteristic sound the vacuum pump makes but it won't open, does it unlock all doors with the key in the normal lock? Quite common for the vac lines to have leaks somewhere, then they won't lock/unlock either.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. The vaccum pump still makes the usual sound when opening and unlocking with the remote however the door just doesn't lock or unlock so there could be a leak?

If i use the key all the doors unlock/lock so I'm guessing its not the actual mechanism

All doors means the pump also unlocks the driver's door? Or do you do that by manually turning the key all the way (rather than trigger only the switch)?
Work ok if you unlock from passenger side?

If the answers are yes, no and yes then bin your remote locking kit as it's ....ed.

Is the remote central locking part of an alarm system or is it just an aftermarket central locking kit ?.

If it's the latter try to find the main control unit as some of those have more than 1 fuse so when your indicator fuse blew, one or more of those may have blown as well. You might find that there are 2 wires coming from the unit that go to left and right indicator wiring, these may both have fuses on them.

Hi. Sorry for the late response, I have been without internet. After closer inspection the vaccum pump does not make any noise when I use the remote but it does whirr whenever i use the key to manually unlock the doors. All the remote does now is basically turn the immobilaser/alarm on and off. Whenever I press the key fob to unlock the door, the immobiliser light goes green and disables the alarm whereas if i open the door without pressing the fob the light in the center console is red and the alarm sounds. Any ideas at all? I've tried reprogramming the remote but it doesn't do anything at all.
