Newbie here in search of my first golf (mk7)
« on: 03 March 2016, 16:19 »
Hi, after getting my defender stolen a few months ago I have now decided against getting another and instead to get a nice car again (my partner is delighted)
After a little deliberation between the A class and the golf I have decided it has to be a golf. Gtd or Gti I'm not that bothered, preferably 3 door though and with DSG. Grey or black preferably. I have considered buying new what with the awesome deals drive the deal are offering at the minute but I need a new car a lot sooner than the 5 months wait the local dealer informed me of
Anyway, if anyone is thinking of selling one now or in the next few weeks let me know and hopefully I will be contributing to the forum myself very soon! Thanks, Lloydy.

Welcome Lloydy!

Not a great way to lose your Defender but at least you've seen the light now!

My personal advice would be "don't be too fussy on spec as they're well equipped as standard, then just pick up the phone and spend a day ringing dealers to find an in stock, or already built car they they want shifting and will do a cracking deal on"

or buy a forum member's used car.

Or lease a GTD for a couple years on a cheap deal through CVL or similar that often have 'specials' on GTD's

How many miles you doing annually? I think it's the most important deciding factor really as the cars are extremely similar.

If I wasn't doing many miles I would choose a GTI but if you're doing a lot then it has to be a GTD (with a tuning box to bring it close to GTI performance)

My first post too. I have a new Golf GTi on order via Orange Wheels. Build week 12. I'm driving a MkIV which I've owned from new, and before that I owned a MkII.

If its any help I received an email alert from Carwow this morning - VW Chester have some new golf GTi's in stock for immediate delivery (says the email). Mix of 3 and 5 door some with PP, some standard. There was a 3 door in white with PP and a 5 door grey with and without PP. No prices listed.

The Orange Wheels price was about £500 lower than the Car Wow prices I was contacted with, but they were all  for a factory order. When I ordered early Feb the wait was estimated delivery last week of May. I got my name attached to an existing dealer order to get a bit further up the queue.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. I did consider leasing as an option but can't seem to find a decent deal at the moment.
As for annual mileage I probably do around 10k. With the price of petrol at the minute and from what I gather the gti not being terrible on fuel I could get away with either.

Another reason for considering either of the engines is the time scale. I could do with one in the next few weeks as since my defender got stolen and I was waiting on a pay out, I went out and bought a cheap run around a Citroen Saxo VTS    It went in for its MOT the other week and failed on quite a few things. Hence why I can't really get a brand new golf due to the long wait.

Thanks for the heads up Jerry I think I shall Give them a call tomorrow and see what they have

Carwow email says speak to Joe Rowland on 0124 940 0076. Good luck. Let us know what the price is!

Might be worth trying a few dealers to see what unregistered stock they have available for immediate delivery. Used only worth it if you're making a big saving, at the moment the prices on brand new VWs are very competitive
