New carpet
« on: 26 February 2016, 21:51 »
The carpet in my car needs replacing, it's already out and the underside is going mouldy, its worn and it smells like its 29 years old!!! My question(s),  has anyone fitted a new carpet? Where did you get it? Was it good quality pile and most importantly, was it a good fit compared to the original?

why not try pressure washing it and letting it dry outside? if that doesn't work you should look into getting a good second hand one. maybe a mk3 one will fit?

Always heard good things about the Newton Commercial parts if you are looking for a new replacement.

A new one is the only way to go! The old one has 'worn' patches on the footwells as there hasn't been floor mats used on it and there's almost holes in the carpet its that bad! Has anyone had any experience with the VWHeritage carpet? Cheers for the Newton commercials name drop!

I would check out a mk3 one first. they must be pretty close and you could probably get one from a breaker for pennies

Or use an old stair carpet sprayed satin black.

Another vote for Newton Commercial from me.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I've been having a look around other forums and Newtons comes up again and again, so I'm thinking thats sold! As were on the subject(ish), what are people using for underlay? Can you just you the same stuff you put under the carpets in your house?

Just had a look at all new carpets and underlay from Newton Commercial Parts... £620 all in, not bad when you consider that's every bit of carpet sorted!

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!
