How much is he worth?
« on: 19 February 2016, 12:52 »
Hi all,

I've been a mk3 golf driver for 8 years now, since I passed my test really! Had them all, a tank 1.4, GTI 16V, VR6 and now a 2.0 GTI 8V which has been my current car for the past 3 years.

I'm looking at potentially selling him and getting a more economical run around, I just wanted to get a few ideas on how much it's actually worth as I've never owned a "limited edition".

He's a '97 black colour concept, 103k on the clock and I'm only the 3rd owner. No mods, so completely original. His bodywork is in good condition - a few scratches here and there but nothing major. He has recently had a major service with a new distributor cap and rotary arm and the cam belt was replaced about 10k miles ago. He has a full service history too, most of being done at VW garages by the previous owner.

Any ideas on his worth before I make the heart wrenching decision to part with it?

Thanks!

How many doors? 3 door ones sell for more - if it's tidy you are probably looking at around 1200 - 1500 quid as that's a reasonably low mileage. Condition of interior and sills etc will also play a part. Stick a couple of pics up

You will struggle to find a much more economical run about tbh.....
A mk3 doesn't really depreciate anymore, insurance is not too bad, same goes for tax and spares are cheap as chips.

Only leaves fuel consumption and unless you're gunning it you should get 35mpg without too many problems - unless you run excessively over 20k a year you won't get many cars that have as low overall costs as yours.

I would not pay over or near a grand for a mk3 (or any car that is not a proper rare classic) that is near enough 20 yo.....

Too many floating around still...picked up a 1.6 more door with less than 50000miles for £50...and with 4 months mot....devious owner was not able to cope with water leak through back light...car was really damp...really hate the dealers or mechanics people take their cars to who quote the earth to fix stuff like this....so car is worth what buyer will pay for it...but realistically with one year MOT I'd reckon any car is worth at least £365...a pound a day for using it..then whatever the buyer feels is worth paying for...but as you can see can get one for £50...

Interesting, but very different to a Gti Colour Concept.. I think it's fairly accepted that all non Gti/Tdi Mk3s are worth no more than scrap value.
