Hi all.
As some of you may remember my beloved Golf Gti was stolen last week. My insurance company are offering a like for like replacement, which is great. Problem is: I do not have courtesy car insurance cover and am left without a car with the insurance people saying I'm looking at 12 weeks for a replacement. Being without a car that long is going to be an absolute nightmare. Also, I'm on a PCP so the payments keep coming. VW have said that the Service plan, alloy cover etc will transfer onto the new car, but only after I forced the issue after being told this would not happen.

Today, my local VW phone and say the insurers have been on and they've given a quote for a new, identical model. But, they have also said that an almost identical model is in and ready to go, the only difference it has a perfomance pack. They wanted an extra 99something for this but have got them down to 600. They insurers have got to agree with this, as have vw finance, so it may all not come to anything.

So, my question, is the performance pack any good?!

Sorry if none of this makes sense: Being broken into, having the car taken, dealing with the mess caused has taken it's toll on my grammar and sense and the different parties involved who pass me on to someone else is horrible. Thanks all.

Do it. The PP is an extra 10ish horsepower and the electronic diff.

It'll certainly cost you less than paying a PCP and alternate transport for 3 months. Food for thought. You never know the insurance might sort the difference for you to get the claim settled and reduce the admin overhead.

And bigger brakes - the same as the R gets. You should get half that outlay back at trade-in, it's the option that retains the most money on the performance Golfs. Go for it.

I haven't driven a non-PP GTI but I'd say definitely go for it. I'm not convinced there'd be much difference in the driving 99% of the time but the big red painted calipers with GTI logo are worth it alone. Plus I think with a performance car any sane person would want the best possible brakes, you never know when you'll need them!

Got to get the go ahead from the insurers and finance company but will definitely do it if they say it's okay.

Performance pack is a must as far as I am concerned!
However as you don't have a hire car, the £600 extra is effectively £50 a week over that 12 week time period..... I doubt you could hire anything as good over that period for the price?

Agree mate. I just hope they go for it. Been without a car for 4 days and its killing me.

The brakes are really good. I stood on mine today and it pulled up to a stop in a very short space.

Diff is great too.
