Mk6 Gti or Edition 35
« on: 15 February 2016, 20:37 »
Evening all. looking at buying a Mk6 Gti but was hoping for a little more power, nothing crazy I might add. Have any if you got experience of a remap for the Mk6 Gti? Seems like £400ish will gain around 40-50bhp. Is it still reliable etc etc.
Secondly, have considered an Ed35 but read they're a little less refined than the standard Gti as its the Mk5 engine. How does it differ to the standard car?
Opinions on all the above would be very much appreciated.
Cheers

I had a Scirocco with the same engine as the GTI and wife had a Mk5 Pirelli GTI with the same engine as the 35, the fact that the Scirocco made way for a 35

Totally different in the way they deliver power, peak power higher up the rev range on the 35

Only about 700 Ed35s in the UK, loved mine as was just an awesome car and felt a little bit special

In my opinion it should either be between the GTI or the R. The 35 is a great car, but apart from the more powerful engine and bigger K04 turbo, it lack any kind of real presence over the GTI. (slightly different side skirts and wheels)

Where as the Ed30 had nice front splitter, nice side skirts and colour coded bumper.

Go GTI if looking for a nice all round car with potential to easy hit 260-270bhp with a few mods. Or go R if you are looking for a powerhouse with 4-wheel drive and can easy reach 320+bhp

The 35 certainly would feel a little more special.

I thought about an R but to be honest due to commitments on house development the budget won't stretch to one.

I do want a good all rounder and have no intention of going crazy with mods I just wanted a little more poke than 207bhp. I'd probably remap that 35 also to be honest. But that would be it.

As the owner of a '35 I am a little biased I suppose, but for me if the budget allowed then it would be the 35 over the gti every time

As Andy says, roughly only 700 made and a very special feeling car...

Stage 1 remap will see around 290-300bhp, importantly it'll be a reliable and proven tune as the 35 enjoys the strongest version of the TFSi motor (CDL code) and has none of the cam tensioner issues of the regular GTi,

Standard xenons, heated leather and Bluetooth, limited build number and nice bespoke touches (front bumper, side skirts and black mirrors over the gti) plus the extra power and tuning potential makes the 35 a bargain imo

Oh i agree, they are great cars, but for an extra 1 or 2k extra you can get an R. Which most are quite highly spec'd. I just think when going over 300bhp the 4-wheel drive helps a ton.

But im sure you will be happy which ever you get

My gti is getting remapped on the 18th so give it a couple of weeks and I'll have a more accurate opinion, but as it stands I would be more  drawn towards the ed35 since there aren't that many and the engine is tougher.  But my GTI is slowly winning me over, nice car.
Suffering from a severe and unforgiving case of GTItis
