Drivers door sticking
« on: 10 February 2016, 21:14 »
Hi folks ,
Just wondered if anyone had any problems with their drivers door sticking /not opening in the colder temperatures? It's not seals sticking to the frame , but actual mechanism internally that doesn't open at all until car warms up! It's been into Vw and they changed the lock despite me telling them it was only when the car was iced up.
Not funny when you're trying to get to work in the morning and you've got to jump over passenger seat to turn car on!

Any help would be appreciated

You sure it's not the door seals? Never heard anything like this before as door hinges and mechs have lithium grease on them and it doesn't really care what the temperature is. Door seals certainly.

Try some Gummi Pflege on the seals - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Einszett-Gummi-Pflege-Rubber-Care-Stick-100ml-/251422930485

You can get it cheaper than this but it's something worth treating the door rubbers with regardless.

Yes definitely the internals,  seals are all fine never any problems .

Not the same issue as you, but I had a nasty surprise this morning due to all doors being iced up. Unlocked the car as was getting ready to get my little boy to the childminders, tried opening drivers door normally as wasn't aware of how stuck it was, so tried again with a little more force and all ok. Came to open the rear door, pulled a little harder as I knew how iced up the drivers door had been, and the handle pretty much came off in my hand.
The cover, that makes up the part of the door handle where your thumb would be, flew off and the handle just flopped around. I was running late so got the cover back on best I could, but the handle was rendered useless so only way I could open the door was from this inside.
Fair play to the dealer, I took it down after work and it took them about 5 minutes to sort.
The fella in the bodyshop said they're only secured by a small plastic clip, so excessive force can cause them to pop out. Not sure if I used excessive force, but was a royal pain in the a*se!
