A couple of issues and queries!
« on: 09 February 2016, 20:41 »
Hi folks I have just purchased a mk4 Gti 1.8 turbo 2003 150bhp.
Its my 4th GTI and for money I paid its gunna do me for a good runaround and more.
I have several issues and hopefully do not upset folks by listing them.

I have no hand book so do not know a couple of silly things.
What spec oil do I need for a refresh and change?
The central locking I am not sure how it works. Press lock button on remote to lock just once fine. But do I need to double press to deadlock?
Also can the one press unlock drivers door - quick double press unlock  all doors, be set to unlock all doors on one press of the remote?  That's if I have got the unlock operation correct in the first place!

My Mk3 had full windows closure. I assume the mk4 has. It works on the drivers door key but is this feature supposed to work on the remote lock button if I hold it for a while?  If so why would it not work on the remote button?

Cheers folks.

I had a similar 'no handbook' issue when I got my mk4....picked up a full set off Ebay for a tenner. The central locking settings are a bit convoluted to explain on here, so unless someone close to you can help out, grab a set of books.

I'm sure the oil question will be answered quickly for you.

The windows up feature on the key isn't standard I'm afraid but it can be added on for around £35 with a KVW100 module.

The double press for all doors can be switched to one press for all doors via VAG COM, you just need to find someone local who'll do it for a few beer tokens. Unless you fancy a visit to me but it can get expensive crossing the Solent lol

As for oil, 5W-30 is the recommended grade these days, take a look here:

Not sure on the deadlock function as I have an aftermarket alarm but it seems pretty deadlocked if I ever lock myself in as the interior pulls won't work...

Just to add a bit more...on the drivers armrest is the electric window switches and there are two extra buttons there.
The button between the front and rear window buttons is used to program/or change the settings for the central locking system..on mine, at least. You really need to have the handbook to guide you through the process smoothly...otherwise you will have to fiddle about a fair bit. My windows can be closed from outside the car, but only with the key in the door lock. I'm not too sure whether the previous owner has fiddled with the locking system on mine, but after getting in and driving off, all the doors will lock themselves at about 10mph. The deadlock system seems to actuate as well, because I have to pull the door handle twice (on all doors) to open whichever one I want.
If I'm alone in the car, only the drivers door will unlock when I pull the handle twice, although I can program it differently with the above mentioned button.

Hope all that makes sense.
