Golf GTI Used prices
« on: 05 February 2016, 20:21 »
Hi All,

Looking for a bit of advice here,

I own an April 15 Golf GTI in Carbon grey with discover nav and keyless entry.

I am at uni but have been on placement year and due to the large mileage ive been doing ive been driving my mum's SLK 250 CDI. the sole reason is the MPG getting about 10-15 mpg more than the golf. no brainer when im doing about 400 miles a week.

Anyway, the other day i was on the way to work and i was plowed into by another driver at complete fault of theirs. Gone through insurers etc and its a write off.

In the mean time they have leant me a 320d bmw. Brand new had 100 miles on it when i jumped into it. Problem is, i have always had a soft spot for the 1 series and spending time in a 3 has really solidified this. I now have my eyes on a M135i. there are some knocking about for around 25k for a new shape, low mileage, good enough spec for what im after.

Question is, How much is my golf worth?? Parkers says 21535 for 10000 miles part ex value. with a good private sell being up near 23-24k. This seems absurd to me knowing that i paid 26 for mine after discount, but on the vw website their are cars older than mine with 3 times the mileage hovering around 20k. Fully appreciate this has some dealer profit baked into the number.

Any advice on the price i could expect would be great. i can get away i reckon with about 3-4k to swap so i guess im hoping for 21-22k for mine.

Thanks in advance,

Charlie

I'm assuming you were the first owner (brand new, not a demo/very nearly new)? Check your insurance, some will replace new if it is written off or stolen in the first year (they won't give you what you paid back if you want cash though).

If you want cash, their first offer will likely be crap, you'll need to demonstrate that it's low by supplying them with some used prices from VW dealers to show you'd be out of pocket on their low-ball offer to replace like-for-like.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

I part exed a May 2014 GTi 3 dr Manual with discover nav and winter pack at the end of Aug 2015, and got 20k for it after alot of haggling and part exing for an Audi. Prices have definitely softened since then - I doubt 6 months on that your car will be worth any more than £20k.

Good luck with the 135i, personally I cant get past the looks.

Ian

Wow things have really changed at uni, I was lucky to have a nice classic mini when I was there because I worked part time and lived at home.

It's taken me years to be able to afford a brand new car, fair play to you for doing it at uni.

Yes, I was convinced you'd wrote your Golf off.

You'll lose your shirt cashing in at 10 months, You're probably looking at getting £20-21k, to see it on the used forecourt for £25k. Those Parkers prices don't seem to take into account the effect of the big deposit contribution and potential VW loyalty money available right now. You'll probably get very close to that by keeping it another year. I'd take a long drive in the 135i before deciding I wanted one on the strength of driving a 3 series around for a bit - they are quite different cars, that 320d will be massively more comfortable to drive.

Good time to be looking at a M135i, BMW are offering big deposit contributions on these, around £6k I think

I can get a nicely built one for 26k...

We buy any car offering me 20.5k for mine but obviously that is bottom trade price. I was pleasantly surprised with 20.5 if im honest.

I will definitely need to test it. Theres other decisions to be made like manual vs. auto etc.
