Looks great. Really does. More pics to follow we all hope.

I suggested ours just has the wraps removed and stickers removed and is not washed but was told this was not possible as they had to properly wash and inspect for damage/scratches etc.

Told them not to *uck upthe paintwork and tell the valeting manager i am a fussy *ucker and would be looking out for swirl marks etc.

 Fingers & toes crossed!!!!!!!!

I'm sure you could insist it's not cleaned in any way. The dealer could remove all covers and jet wash it down and check for scratches without doing anything else to it. The dealer I've used has been the opposite to yours, I've got a detailer going to VW to prep my car after they have PDI'd it and they are fine with not cleaning it in any way.

My car has finally arrived and well worth the wait. Anyone with missgivings about collecting their car "in the wraps", as I did, have no fear. This is what my car looked like after gently pulling away the taped on and elasticated sheeting and wiping away the wax crayon writing on the windscreen with a little WD40:

The car is not clean and there is glue residue etc. where the tape was, but it is good enough to wait a few days until I've got time to do a proper job. The sheets that cover the bonnet and hatch are really quite elaborate, held on with loops and elasticated edges, but none of them are difficult to remove safely. Best of all, the car has arrived home with no scratches or swirls!

Looks lovely, look forward to seeing the next pics after cleaning

Where are you getting it from given you are in East Kilbride?

The valetting manager     That will be shared equally between 2 boys and a gritty sponge.

They could easily just take the covers and stickers off and leave it that way but you would then drive away basically responsible for any damage.

I would advocate for everyone just to have the covers removed but get it jetwashed after the state ours came in. As someone will eventually take theirs away unwashed and there will be some sort of paint defect like swirling under the covers and the dealer will put that back on to the owner as they took it away without the dealer being able to properly inspect it.

@Talk-torque loving the silver.

I'm surprised they've taken that attitude. You're saving them time and money at the end of the day.
My salesman was delighted when I informed him I was taking the car untouched. The previous day, the lads who washed the new cars had scratched the brand new R that was being handed over to a local lawyer known nationally as 'Mr Loophole' due to his knack of getting pissed footballers a fine instead of a ban. The guy was being a complete prick over it, rightly so to be fair
He said it would suit them if every car left the forecourt untouched but most people aren't anal over their cars apparently

I had  my GTI   from crewe  3 weeks ago , they made an excellent job  , like you  I told them I was very fussy and had spent the last 30+ years  examining paintwork on new Bentleys
so I would not accept  any shoddy paintwork scratches or swirl marks  ,
if  your car  get the same treatment you will have no reason to complain

This just in from the dealer!

I’ve just spoken to our guys in the workshop and they have given me a couple of options in terms of cleaning it.

The first is to do a full valet, second is just to jet wash it and third is to take the stickers and wraps off and that’s it.

The valeters have advised me that if they jet wash it only, it’s likely to leave swirls in the paint work with no polish going on it. They have also said that if they do a full valet there’s a chance it could have swirls in it but much less of a chance than just the jet wash.

Our guys don’t do professional detailing but they have had experience in that side of it and everyone I know who has done detailing tells me that is the only way to really reduce swirls in paintwork but still not 100% guaranteed. The main reason for that I’m told, is that the paint on cars now is much softer than it used to be, mainly down to it not being oil based now as modern paint is apparently better for the environment.

It is entirely up to you what you would like them to do though.

So i have asked them just to remove the wraps and stickers!

Good choice?

Just take it away with all the wrappers on. I found one mark on the paintwork after I'd cleaned it myself which the dealer offered to sort out after I'd sent him a picture. I declined his offer and fixed it myself in 2 minutes.
It's not worth having them touch it, and if you let them know that you are an avid detailer, they should trust you not to f**k your own paintwork up
ps
Just noticed you have ordered a black car, so even more reason not to trust them!

It would be bad luck to have any damage under the wraps. If mine is anything to go by, the paint will be just as you would expect it to be underneath. Don't know what the protocols are for damage occurring in transit, but you'd expect the contractors to want to avoid any impacts or rubs, given the costs involved in repairs. The wraps are very easy, and quick, to remove, so maybe the best compromise is to have the wraps removed in your prescence. Any damage would then be visible, with blame not in question.

I actually enjoyed removing the sheets, myself, at home. Felt a bit like Christmas! I was lucky, as the paint underneath was perfect. I believe my dealership would have been OK if there had been anything wrong, but you may not want to take that chance.

It's quite suprising how many checks any car goes through prior to landing at the dealers. They are checked when delivered to the compound from the ship they are checked again by the transporter driver and the yard prior to loading when they arrive at the dealers they are checked again before getting signed off ok then checked again by the dealers big boys then again by us lol.. believe you me the transporter drivers do their upmost to get them to dealers as it's down to the drivers losing bonuses if any damage at all from being signed off on collection and arrival at the dealer
